Good news sometimes was released prematurely, with the British recapture of the port announced half a day before the defenders actually surrendered.

这个句子该怎么翻译呢？只要是后面with连接的从句里，half a day before 究竟是修饰the defenders actually surrendered呢，还是前半句？究竟British recapture of the port 和the defenders surrendered哪个在先呢？

好消息有时发布过于草率，英国人刚宣布重新占领港口，而半天后就传来了拥护者投降的消息。
是这样吗？

你对这句话的理解有出入，Defender不是英国的拥护者，而是指港口的守护者，是英国的对手，敌人。
好的消息有的时候发布的过早，英国人在守护者真正投降的半天之前就宣布了他们已经夺回港口。
