Ken has a small collection of CDs and VCDs in his drawer, among which he treasures the complete edition of Disney's Read Along most. Every night when the bed time comes, he will choose one disc from those read along stories, put it into the CD-player all by himself, lean against a large pillow I prepare for him and begin his adventure in Disney's classic stories.
One day, he commented that his favorite cartoon character was a little puppet called Pinocchio. Ken would giggle everytime he read that Pinocchio tried to cover up his predicament by lying to the Blue Fairy, but with each lie, his wooden nose grew longer and longer. Ken has got the trick, I guess. From then on, we had role-playings at home. Ken acted Pinocchio, and I--the Blue Fairy. When I asked him whether a lying boy was a good guy, he would shake his head violently.
So when I got the news that the story of Pinocchio would be presented on the stage by a puppet performance troupe, I was even more excited than my little boy. His daddy made three tickets available at a very short notice, though the cost might feast three of us a decent buffet dinner.
The show was due on February 11 at Hangzhou Theater. Early that morning, after dressing up, I declared, "Ken, you will date Pinocchio today!" I noticed that a look of pleasure came to his face.
No sooner had we entered the theater lobby than we saw a microphone ahead of us. It was a hot news column called "Enter Today" of Zhejiang TV station doing their routine. Ken was interviewed, though the 30-month-old showed a little bit absent-minded. He was at a loss for words until he was asked what would happen when Pinocchio lied. "His nose grew longer and longer." If you happened to watch "Enter Today" later on that day, you would hear a 30-month-old thus commented.
As we settled down on seats, the bell rang and music started. Ken sat there motionless and began his adventure with Pinocchio...... |
