My favourate films are not centred on historical themes except for Gladiator :)

Shrek is highly recommended as it's unlike those naive Disney cartoon movies. The story ends with not princess and prince living happily ever after, but rather the princess transforming into an ugly shape but still being happy with her equally ugly lover. It's somehow an embodiment of our real daily life in which endings may not always be what people have expected to see.

Infernal Affairs is a Hongkong movie, depicting a mutual penetration of secret spys from the police and black society. It's again real in a sense that the two are being rivals yet undertable communication and leakage of secret plans against each other are still inevitable. There's no absolute black and white in this movie, as well as in the society.

Passion of the Christmas is more on religion rather than history. However the background is indeed a historical fact.

Gladiator - need I say more?

Apparently we have little in common on movie taste, but that won't hinder us from exchanging our favorites:)
Shrek is already on my waiting list.
Hongkong movie is the least thing that I would fancy, though I knew Infernal Affairs was a big hit.
As for Gladiator, I always figure whether it is a movie of masculinity thing. So I keep wondering whether you are a father:)
Recently I had a crush on comedies and soaps, and can hardly spare any time on other movies.
Again, thank you very much for sharing your favorites with me:)

I guess so. Many Hongkong movies are crappy that I really have no appetite for. I had such stereotype about HongKong productions before, but lately I realised I'd miss out a lot of wonderful things having that biasness. Like music, films are borderless. Interesting though I also recognize the resemblance when it comes to judging people. But I wont go into that as it's a bit off topic. I'm very happy to share my favourate movies here, especially I know most of the visitors are mothers. By the way I'm not a father. Gladiator is appealing to so many people because its theme is not on depicting the fighting scenes at that ancient age, but rather on seeking love, hope and righteousness in depth juxtaposing with the cruelty of the fighting and killing. Anyway besides movie and TV programmes, what other productions do you favour? Do you like musical, opera, or dance?

You know what a satisfactory thing it is to wake up in the morning to find someone delivered something :)

Ok,get right to the point:
Actually I am not denying everything about Hongkong movie. The truth is for a working mother with plenty of duties to fulfill in the daytime and with less time for her own entertainment late in the night, she has to be choosy.
So it is always those tasty commedies and in-depth romances, which might help ease the tension, enjoy priority.
I totally agree with that "bordless" theory. Even, the universe is boundless. But when it comes to ordinary life, people do have to face things as possessions and concessions.
In a word, it is the lesure time shortage more than the biasness that makes hongkong movie ranks the bottom on my list in my recent life.
By the way, my favorite Hongkong movie is 甜蜜蜜.

Looking back on my music preference, I found there were two-me.
One is as quiet as ever while the other is just the opposite--passionate. Of course the latter is always the inside-me.
A case in point, when still a teenager, I found the most relaxing way for me to do was to hang around with a gang and end up our night in a disco and rap was the right style to be the background for dancing:)
Oh, I used to be a big fan of WHAM, the band, famous songs of whose include "careless whisper","Last Christmas".

I stop here to get a reflection.
Fluffy,Let's hear yours first:)

um I may not be intelligent enough to see any relevance of 'boundless universe' with discerning things regardless of where they are from. Correct me if I'm mistaken. I understand that working mothers don't have plenty of leisure time, and Hongkong productions being the least preferred on your priority list is because of insufficient time for going through all types of movies. Nevertheless the 'borderless' point was brought up because I saw you categorize films according to where they're produced. Personally I don't judge a movie in that way, but rather the content of it and the entertainment level it brings to me. The last thing I'd do is to label a movie by where it's produced and put it at the bottom of my option list. I mentioned the same applies when I look at people.

Anyways, back to my favourate productions. I can accept all kinds of music or other forms relevant to music except for hard metal. I just cannot connect to it. I used to like Rock music and my favourate band was an Irish band called Ash. You may not have heard of it. However now my lens of focus has shifted to more aesthetic works like classical music, ballet and musicals. My favourate musical is Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. Do you watch musicals?

Oops I forgot to talk about music

I don't watch TV nowadays so I may not have something to talk about. I listen to a few of Chinese pop music, but the ones I like are all older songs, such as 'Tears', 'Snowman', 'cry' by Fanxiaoxuan, Most of Sunyanzi, Jacky Cheong and Faye Wong's songs. I was crazy about Savage Garden - an Australian band and their songs such as 'Affirmation', 'Truly Deeply Madly', 'To the Moon and Back' etc, until it disbanded. I can't connect to club musics of any kind, the reason why I never go clubbing. Perhaps I'm more of the peaceful type of personality, fortunately.

Honey, there is hardly any true or false judgement in a casual conversation without any vicious intention. As long as views are exchanged and English is polished with the passage of the time, mutual effort should be appreciated. We can taste but don't see any need to digest every sparkle in other people's mind:)

You talk a lot about aesthetic works as ballet and opera, but I don't think the city we live in has become the rich soil for that kind of art. Less chances are there for plays on show in our city. Or maybe we live in different cities? If taking on-TV opera into consideration, I did come across one--"Cat", but vaguely now, except for its "Memory", a melody that is everlasting.
Would you go into details about your favorite ballet and opera?

Oh I think there's some miscommunication here. I was actually trying to grasp your logic of relating 'boundless' and 'borderless', because I see them as different concepts. I wonder if you can explain further so that I can follow your point of view. I didn't get you in the first place therefore I requested your kind correction if I was mistaken - I tried to rephraise your reasoning followed by my idea about differentiating good and bad movies 'Personally I don't judge a movie in that way, but rather the content of it and the entertainment level it brings to me.' I feel sorry if you felt offended in any way. I can't remember I said your point is definitely wrong or mine is surely right. I didn't even have the purpose to judge whose is the right view. The intention of expressing my humble opinion wasn't to compare it with yours. It's just a retrospect in my flow of thought upon seeing discrepancies in us.

I do welcome and embrace all sorts of opinions, but I am as well concerned if opinions are got through clearly, and I'm happy to clarify any ambivalent interpretation. For effective and smooth communication, I think it is necessary to put in effort in comprehending people's ideas thoroughly otherwise the whole conversation would boil down to meaningless babblings or perhaps crap. Maybe I'm keen on this because I am a logical person. To me, language, be it polished or not as long as it's not vulgarity, doesn't really matter. I'm more interested in the content itself. :)

I assumed people on this forum are from different cities. Perhaps I was wrong. May I know where you are now? I'm from Guangzhou. I've watched 'Cats' in live. In fact it's not opera, but musical. My favourate musical was Phantom, as I mentioned. All songs in Phantom are excellent. I can give you their names: Think of Me; Angel of Music; Phantom of the Opera. I believe Phantom is a milestone in musical after Les Miserables as till now there's no other impressive musicals that can win as much applause as Phantom. I'm going to watch it again in the coming January. Sooo looking forward to it. :)) Oh I'm going to watch Nutcracker, by St. Petersburg theatre ballet at the end of this month. I watched their Swanlake last time. My seat has just restricted view unfortunately. I couldn't see the whole stage properly, so for some time I could just hear music without seeing any scenes. But I must praise the orchestra.

Maybe it was the way I turned down your mistake correction request that caused ambiguity, if there was any. What I was trying to express was there was no true or false judgement involved in free talks so I didn't see any ground for my correction on your opinion. The hidden meaning was that everybody might lay off burden or hesitation and say one's say.

I have to be frank, to me, whether my language is polished or not, really matters, which is a major reason for my hanging around here a lot when time allowed. If I were for contents, I might surf other forums, where resources might be richer and communication might be smoothier since people there use their mothertongue.

As for that "bordless" and "boundless" theory, I find myself stumble over words in a rush. It's a big and complex topic, I will discuss it later if I am ready.

Anyway, your posting has been something that I have been expecting recently:)

BTW, I am from Hangzhou, a working mother, have a boy 3 years old.
What about you?
How do you know this forum?

Oh I must clarify that I didn't ask for correction for my opinion, but how I interpreted/rephraised your opinion. I think I had made it very clear by saying that I was to ensure ideas are got through. Hopefully it is clear now to be understood.

um I don't intend to come here in order to practise the language (I assume English here). This forum is quite unique in a sense that not many forums are designed solely for mothers. There's few website like this to provide a good resource of first hand maternal information. It is indeed very interesting to me, not yet a mother. I was first attracted by the recipes section. Sooner I explored other sections but only find this one applicable to me as I'm not dwelling in Hangzhou. Apparently many mothers here are living in Hangzhou.

Perhaps if you're interested in the topic (I hesitate to call it a theory as I didn't mean my borderless judgement view to be qualified as a theory) of 'boundless', you're always welcome to open a new thread for discussion , so that other mummies are also invited to give their opinions. I was just curious about the logic behind the connection you made between a 'borderless judgement' and a 'boundless universe'. The 'borderless judgement' simply means that I don't judge things according to where they are from.

What a week!
Anyway I am back to the conversation. Still there, fluffy?
It seems we finally worked out part of the knot in the miscommunication, if something remains puzzling, I guess that should be the concept of "boundless" in my previous argument. Actually I borrowed the concept from professor Hawkings, who brought forth the definition "boundless" to describe the universe. Though dimly enlightened by this profound theory, I try to apply this sciolistic enlightenment into different phenomena. I am unable to reach more with my limited intelligence but I keep tasting the essence of the theory in my own way. Accordint to the theory, the universe may be seen as boundless yet quite limited in its size, and in my usage, I just want to prove that jugement can be bordless in a general sense, but when it comes to specific suitation, it can carry a little bit biasness,as long as the biasness is harmless to others, like time pressing working mother arranging her favorite movie list. Anyways, it's my unique logic, if you feel it hard and ridiculous to follow, just quit.

Guangzhou is a city that brings back fond memories. I have been there once. What impressed me most was cantonese morning tea. I could still picture those restaurants serving delicious Dim Sun. And I can't miss mentioning cantonese dishes and fruits.

Have you ever been to Hangzhou?

I'm quite marvelled at your linking my judging things regardless of their source to Stephen Hawking's quantum mechanics theory. What he suggested was the universe had no boundary but it was finite in time and space. I thought you were putting our two 'boundary-less' and 'borderless' concepts in parallel, but obviously there's no resemblance in them. Perhaps my mentioning 'borderless' reminded you of a term you learnt in quantum physics which has a similar spelling, and then you used your 'unique logic' to link it to your choice of entertainment. I certainly agree that everyone has her own priority which she has the freedom for modification. Please be noted that treating HK productions as less preferred is totally your own choice and biasness doesn't come in here. My point was that the way you categorized movies according to where they are produced reflected your different way of seeing things as mine. In other words, I watch movies as movies themselves and will rate them upon the content, whereas you might see where they are produced first or perhaps have made a judgement even before seeing them. That's what I derived from the way you classify movies. Am I right?

I'm curious - why can't you miss mentioning Cantonese cuisines? In fact I don't think I have grasped the meaning of that sentence. When I was young, I had been always looking forward to weekends where my parents would usually bring me to a restaurants for Dim Sum. Sometimes if adults got up late, my grandpa and I would go there early to book a table for the family. That lasted for quite a while in my childhood and I remembered it fondly. It's not easy to make some Dim Sum at home actually: some require special equipments such as the steam basket made of bamboo for like Shrimp Dumplings, Sui Mai, steamed pork ribs, and various kinds of Pau, while other dishes, for example Cheong Fun (folded rice noodles), Egg tarts, carrot cake, and Lo Mai Gai (chicken in glutinous rice wrap) necessitate very complicated cooking process and relevant skills.

I've been to Hangzhou once in a winter, several years ago. I visited some famous tourists attractions among which I now only remember the West Lake. (What a shame) I spent for two to three days there before heading to Nanjing if I'm not wrong. I went with my parents, but I stayed in my previous classmate's place. I still remember vividly that she was showing some of her 艺术照 to me, telling me about the guy she was then interested in, all sorts of such girly topics. Now the girl is in a foreign country. Well I'm getting nostalgic...The memory about Hangzhou has again reinforced my belief that I remember the place because of the people living there.

So much for today. I seem to have talked a lot. I was busy last week too. I've always enjoyed chatting, or maybe typing, with you. Thanks for your time and happy Christmas.

It was your mentioning 'borderless' reminded me of a term I hardly digested, actually literally comprehended, in quantum physics which has a similar spelling, and then I used my 'unique logic' to link it to my choice of movie. I took it for granted that the theory was a multi-purpose one and I abused it in reasoning things. But please be noted that it was only only on movies that Hongkong productions are less favored and the reason was repeatly stated in my previous arguments.

I am curious of your curiosity. Isn't that a double-negative to emphasize the fact that I missed cantonese cuisines a lot? Simply reading Dim Sum's name on the screen made my mouth water:)

My experience in Guangzhou could be dated back to an Autumn in 1996. I was there for the annual import&export commodities fair. Those days were very impressive. It was in the city that I saw the stripper dancing for the first time and it was there I began to realize the spare time could be spent in such a colorful way and, last but not least, gluttonous people could be so satisfied with the food:) You know what I dreamed most recently was that we could have a cantonese restaurant serving moring tea round my neighborhood. If people have a satisfied morning, they are likely to be contented with the whole day.

To me, Hangzhou is a place suitable for dwelling. The beauty of the city is not so glittery, but tasty.

It's nice to have you chatting with. Same wishes to you.
